What is Touch Typing
Touch typing is a way of typing by using only your fingers and without looking at the keys. Yes that’s right, Anyone with 10 fingers and pretty good patience can learn touch typing(Patience is the key).
Why you should learn
Yes, it’s true, you can impress your crush. But more importantly, learning touch typing saves you a lot of time. Your memory muscles will pick the keys effortlessly so you can concentrate on your works and submit it way before your boss wants it. Yey!!!
Where you should learn
Of course, you don’t have to go to a typing center to learn touch typing. There are tons of websites available for learning touch typing. All you have to do is to find the perfect one for you. I started by practicing on keybr.com( which helped me to find my weak keys ) and after getting a pretty good speed (40wpm) I moved to 10fastfingers.com (in which we can practice a lot of common words ). Both sites helped me a lot to gain speed.
My Story
When I started learning I had a speed of 13WPM on keybr.com and it took almost 1 month to reach 25WPM. It was frustrating at first because I wasn’t able to pick the right keys and I constantly looked at the keys and I wasn’t seeing any sudden improvements. But after some researches on the internet, I was able to find a better form. After 5 months of daily practice I reached 80WPM and now I am so proud.
What I learned
As I mentioned above, touch typing is one of the most underestimated skills in the computer world. It helped me search better, code better, and even clear my browsing history faster😉. Touch typing helped me to grow as a web developer. Learning it is so hard if you have zero patience. Practicing it daily for a couple of months will show you some really good results.
